Video Resolution Tests
Directed Generative Production · October 27, 2026
Does choosing a higher native resolution improve measured image quality? This exploratory test compares six native outputs from Kling 4.0, Wan 3.0 Prime, and Seedance 2.5 using the same cowboy reference and prompt. Each tool produced one six-second clip at its lower available setting and one at 1080p. Watch the paired clips below, then compare their MUSIQ means. The test documents these specific outputs, rather than establishing a model leaderboard.

Interpretation and Limitations
This experiment evaluated native video generation across three hosted tools using a standardized cowboy reference and prompt. Each tool produced a single six-second clip per resolution setting, targeting close, medium, and long shots at two-second intervals (0–2, 2–4, and 4–6 seconds) separated by hard cuts. Accuracy of these internal cut boundaries was not independently verified. Scoring was conducted using KonIQ-trained MUSIQ via IQA-PyTorch, calculating the mean of nine frames sampled at 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4.5, 5, and 5.5 seconds. Clips were processed as decoded RGB without external resizing, sharpening, or color correction, though internal preprocessing remained active.
Quantitative findings showed Kling 4.0 received the highest observed mean MUSIQ score at both 720p (76.551) and 1080p (73.564). Comparisons between Kling and Wan 3.0 Prime at the 1080p setting showed a narrow gap of only 0.313 points, a difference whose practical visual impact remains unestablished. Notably, across all three tools, clips generated at higher resolution settings scored lower than those at lower settings. However, as these represent separate generation cycles, these data do not establish causal resolution effects.
Author observations noted model behavior variations. Wan 3.0 Prime showed an angular change during the middle shot, while Seedance 2.5 showed misframing in the middle shot. MUSIQ scores are model points, not percentages. MUSIQ predicts image quality; it does not directly measure resolved detail, temporal quality, identity consistency, or directorial compliance. Because only one generation per condition was performed, these results cannot establish general model superiority. Frame scores are nested within individual clips rather than serving as independent generation replicates.
Technical limitations include uncontrolled generation seeds, differing composition, codecs, frame rates, and provider processing. The 1672 × 941 reference contained fewer pixels than a 1080p output and provided no ground truth for resolved detail. No blinded viewing or second metric was applied. This page and the manuscript conclusions use only native output results; separate upscale results are excluded.
Kling’s lower setting was 720p; Wan and Seedance used 480p, so the lower-setting comparison is not equal-resolution. Replication across independent generations, additional scene types, verified shot framing, and blinded viewing would strengthen a follow-up. Learned scores should inform production judgment alongside playback, temporal stability, and compliance with the requested scene.
$7.21 total experimental expenditure
Native generation used 915 credits at the author’s US$0.0075 replacement rate: US$6.8625, or $6.86 rounded. Cloud rental was $0.35 for the wider scoring session, including six native files and six separate upscale derivatives. The total was US$7.2125, rounded to $7.21. Only native results inform this page and the manuscript conclusions. Existing subscriptions, labor, local equipment, and internet access are excluded.
